The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program is an excellent introduction to the underwater world, designed for those who want to experience scuba diving for the first time. It’s a great way to find out what scuba diving is all about before committing to a full certification course.

What Does the Program Include?

  1. Briefing and Orientation:

    • Introduction to Scuba Gear: Learn about the basic scuba equipment, including how to use a mask, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, and tank.

    • Safety Guidelines: Understand the essential safety concepts and rules of scuba diving to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

  2. Confined Water Session:

    • Basic Skills Practice: In a pool or shallow, confined water environment, you’ll practice basic diving skills under the direct supervision of a PADI professional. This includes breathing underwater, clearing your mask, and achieving buoyancy control.

    • Comfort and Confidence: This session is designed to make you comfortable and confident with the basic scuba skills before moving to open water.

  3. Optional Open Water Dive:

    • Experience Real Diving: If you feel ready and comfortable, you can take an optional open water dive in a natural setting, such as a lake or the ocean. This dive allows you to experience the excitement of the underwater world in a safe and controlled manner.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum Age: You must be at least 10 years old (with parental consent for minors).

  • Health: Complete a medical questionnaire to ensure you are fit to dive.

  • Swimming Skills: Basic swimming ability is helpful but not mandatory.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is your gateway to the world of scuba diving. It is the most popular and globally recognized diving certification course, designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to explore the ocean safely and confidently.

What Does the Course Include?

  1. Diving Theory:

    • Learning Modules: Through in-person or online classes, you will learn the basic principles of diving, including diving physics and physiology, equipment handling, and safe diving techniques.

    • Knowledge Reviews and Exams: Ensure you understand and retain the information through quizzes and exams that assess your progress.

  2. Confined Water Training:

    • Practical Sessions: In a pool or similar controlled environment, you will practice what you've learned in theory. You will perform basic diving exercises, such as clearing your mask and recovering your regulator.

    • Skill Mastery: These sessions will help you develop and refine the necessary skills for safe and effective diving.

  3. Open Water Dives:

    • Ocean Dives: You will complete at least four dives in a natural setting, such as the ocean or a lake. These dives will provide you with practical experience under the supervision of a PADI instructor.

    • Exploration and Application: You will apply the skills learned in confined water and experience the thrill of diving in a real marine environment, observing underwater life and aquatic ecosystems.

What Does the Course Include?

  1. Adventure Dives:

    • Core Dives: The course includes two mandatory dives: Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive.

      • Deep Dive: Learn to manage the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving (up to 30 meters/100 feet).

      • Underwater Navigation Dive: Improve your navigation skills using a compass and natural references.

    • Elective Dives: Choose three additional Adventure Dives based on your interests and local availability, such as:

      • Night Dive: Experience the underwater world after dark and observe nocturnal marine life.

      • Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive: Fine-tune your buoyancy control for better diving efficiency and enjoyment.

      • Underwater Photography Dive: Capture the beauty of the underwater world with your camera.

  2. Knowledge Development:

    • Adventure Dive Manuals: Read and complete the knowledge reviews for each of the five chosen Adventure Dives. This self-study component ensures you understand the key concepts and skills for each dive type.

    • Briefings and Debriefings: Your instructor will provide thorough briefings before each dive and review your performance afterward, ensuring you gain valuable insights and feedback.

  3. Practical Experience:

    • Five Open Water Dives: Conducted over two days, you’ll complete a total of five open water dives. These dives provide hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in diverse underwater settings.

Prerequisites:

  • PADI Open Water Diver Certification: You must be a certified PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent).

  • Minimum Age: You must be at least 12 years old (with parental consent for minors).
